About The Foundation

Financial support from the community has always been an important part of the success of the Hospital. The original funding used to establish The Washington Hospital was provided by compassionate individuals, and that legacy continues today. All fundraising activities are conducted by The Washington Hospital Foundation. As the fundraising arm of the Hospital, its job is to generate, manage and distribute charitable funds for the Hospital. Charitable gifts are used to create, continue, expand, and improve new and existing programs, services, facilities and equipment.

All of the money raised by the Foundation benefits The Washington Hospital. Programs such as Cancer Treatment, Cardiac Care, Children’s Therapy Center, Diabetes Education and Management Program, Hospice Care, Teen Outreach, and Women’s Health Services, among many others, benefit the community through dollars raised by the Foundation. In the past several years, funds have been raised to purchase state-of-the art equipment, assist in building the “E” Wing, the Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center and Donnell House, create the “Main Street” rehabilitation unit, develop the Ruth York Morgan Health Education Learning Place and renovate the hospital’s waiting rooms and patient care units. Every dollar raised is used to help create a better environment that accelerates the healing process.

Why Does the Hospital Need Charitable Support?

Without the support of the community, The Washington Hospital would have a difficult time providing the quality services that it offers. Cutbacks in payments for patient care at the state and federal level and the proliferation of the managed care system have had a direct effect on the hospital’s financial status. If it were not for charitable giving, many pieces of new, lifesaving equipment could not be purchased. Without donor support we could not upgrade our facilities or build the new ones that are vital to the care we offer.  Without charitable gifts, we could not educate and train our staff to be among the best in the field.  Your support makes a great difference in the lives of our patients.

The Foundation is a non-profit corporation under the Non-Profit Corporation Law of 1972 of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is an exempt organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954.
