General
Information Did you know that employment for radiologic technologists is expected to grow faster than the average for almost all occupations through 2010? Take your career to new heights at The Washington Hospital’s School of Radiologic Technology. The School of Radiologic Technology was established in 1955. The 24-month program prepares graduates to begin their career as entry-level radiographers. Students receive a minimum of 800 contact hours of scheduled classroom theory and at least 2,500 contact hours of clinical experience during the program. The program utilizes a competency-based program of clinical education that is designed to prepare the student to achieve the skills and proficiency required of the profession of radiography. Students are assigned to the various clinical areas of the Radiology Department, including CT, MRI, and other specialty imaging areas, on a rotational schedule. Academic and clinical performance is monitored and evaluated as the students’ progress through the training. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply for the national certification examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists**. Graduates passing the certification examination are recognized as Registered Technologists. The Washington Hospital School of Radiologic Technology graduates have an ARRT certification examination pass rate of 97 percent. **Conviction of a crime including a felony or misdemeanor may impact on the candidate’s eligibility to take the ARRT examination. Radiologic Technology program, in conjunction with the mission of The
Washington Hospital, is to provide an academic and clinical education
program in radiologic technology. This will enable students to become
skilled radiologic technologists who will apply their knowledge and skills
in a team approach to the delivery of health care. The program will instill
in each student the moral and ethical values to enable them to offer a high
quality care while preserving each patient’s dignity as a unique
individual. The program provides services to all students without regard to
race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, sexual preference, or

Graduation Requirements
Student Services
Attendance, Personal Time Off, and Vacation· Students are scheduled to spend a maximum of 40 hours per week in the academic and clinical phases of the program. · Eighty hours of personal time off per years is allotted to the student radiographer. The student will be required to make up time in excess of the 80 hours per year on vacation or after graduation. · Students are granted seven weeks vacation during the 24 month program. Dress Code· Students will adhere to he program’s dress code as stated in the Student Handbook. Grading System· Academic progress is rated on the following scale:

Grade Quality Points Satisfactory academic progress requires a grade of C or better in each course and a 2.50 quality point average to be maintained each term. · Clinical progress is rated on the following scale.

Grade Quality Points Satisfactory clinical progress requires a grade of B or better each term.
Students failing to meet academic or clinical requirements are placed
on probation. Advanced Placement· The program will evaluate requests for advanced placement on an individual basis utilizing the following criteria: · The individual must have attended another recognized radiography program. · Transcripts including academic courses, clinical competencies, and clinical hours must be provided for review. · The Admissions Committee will make the determination of advanced placement. · A minimum of one year enrollment is required for all advanced placement students. Leave of Absence· A leave of absence may be granted upon arrangement with the Chairman of the Radiology Department and the Director of Education.

The re-entry date will be determined in accordance with the
