IMRT

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is a state-of-the-art treatment that delivers radiation to a tumor with more precision and accuracy, resulting in fewer side effects for the patient.

Successful IMRT therapy requires the expertise of highly specialized physicists to support the treatment planning process. Washington Health System Radiation Oncology in partnerships with UPMC Caner Center staff work in tandem with nationally recognized specialists at UPMC Cancer Centers in Pittsburgh, via telemedicine capabilities, to develop an individualized treatment plan for each patient. UPMC Cancer Centers is currently the only network in the western Pennsylvania region to offer this important component of IMRT.
