Description:

The Washington Hospital Diabetes Education & Management Program (DEMP) is hosting several educational symposia for medical assistants.  The goal of the program is to educate the medical assistants in the physician office environment so that the practice can enhance the role that medical assistants play in introducing/reinforcing principles of diabetes self-management to patients and families.

The topics presented include:

  1. Understanding the nutrition label
  2. Carbohydrates vs. sugar, is there a difference?
  3. Self-blood glucose monitoring:  when to test & what the numbers mean?
  4. High (hyperglycemia) & low (hypoglycemia) blood sugar: symptoms, causes and treatment.
  5. Diabetic foot screening and competency validation

The academy will be held at the DEMP office located at 95 Leonard Ave.  Bldg. 2, Suite 501.  (Neighbor Health Center)

Each session is 1 ½ hours in duration.
