Prenatal Classes

Early Pregnancy Class: The second Thursday of each month, from 7 to 89 p.m. at the Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center. This class includes a week of water exercise, land exercise, a nutrition class as well as an informational class given by the RN's. The cost is $40 for members of the wellness center and $45 for non-members. To register, please call Becky Knoneberg at 724.223.3173. Prepared Childbirth Class: This is a six-week class designed for expectant parents in their last few months of pregnancy to help prepare them for the birth of their child. In addition to breathing and relaxation techniques, parents-to-be will learn about medications and Cesarean sections, as well as tour the Maternity Department. This class is taught by RNs who are also Certified Childbirth Educators. Baby Care Class: This three-hour class is offered every other month on a Monday evening. This fun class teaches expectant parents how to care for their newborn. Most classes also enjoy a visit from one of our pediatricians, who is available to answer questions. This class is taught by one of our experienced maternity department RNs. Breastfeeding Class: This two-week class is offered every other month for expectant parents. Our Certified Lactation Consultant will teach you everything you need to know to successfully breastfeed your newborn. Yes, dads are expected to attend also, to discover the many ways they can support and bond with their breastfed newborns. There is a fee for these classes, but many insurance plans will reimburse you for some or all of the cost of the class. Check with your plan to verify coverage. Breastfeeding Support Group: This free group meets monthly on the last Monday of each month (except May) from 6:30-8 p.m. Various breastfeeding topics are discussed. This group is led by our Certified Lactation Consultant. It is a great opportunity to meet other breastfeeding families, share ideas and make new friends. Call 724-250-4476 to register. You will likely see our educators at most of the Community Health Fairs. Please stop by and talk to us when you visit these events. Lactation Program: This program was developed to promote, encourage and support breastfeeding for mothers and their babies. Besides the support group, we offer free inpatient lactation consultation, follow-up phone calls to all breastfeeding mothers, and educational materials to patients, families and the community. Outpatient Lactation Consultation is also available for a fee, as well as a variety of breastfeeding products such as bras, and pumps. For more information, call 724-250-4476.
